Anne Nemetz-Carlson of Child Care of the Berkshires
Honored by Children’s Trust Fund
with Stephen M. Cahn Award

North Adams—The Massachusetts Children’s Trust Fund (CTF) honored Anne Nemetz-Carlson of Williamstown with its highest honor for family support professionals, the Stephen M. Cahn Award at its recent Annual Meeting in Boston. Ms. Nemetz-Carlson was applauded for her more than 25 years of outstanding dedication and service to families and children through her work as the Executive Director of Child Care of the Berkshires in North Adams, Massachusetts.

Ms. Nemetz-Carlson has provided leadership and oversight to the agency since 1983, increasing the number and variety of programs offered by CCB to ensure that all children are nurtured, learning and free from harm. She advocates for high quality programming and advances the field of child protection through creativity, entrepreneurship, and “thinking outside the box.” She has embraced and implemented the “Strengthening Families” philosophy in both the child care and family support programs. Ms. Nemetz-Carlson works collaboratively with the Children’s Trust Fund to organize the “Step Up for Prevention” public event that raises awareness of the high incidence of child abuse and prevention efforts. Children’s shoes are displayed on the steps of the Pittsfield City Hall and represent the number of children abused each month in Berkshire County. Ms. Nemetz-Carlson serves on the CTF Program Committee and is a member of the MADCA (Massachusetts Association of Early Education and Care) Board of Directors. Suzin Bartley, Executive Director of CTF, nominated her for this prestigious award. At the award presentation, Anne noted in her short acceptance remarks that she is truly honored to have received this recognition and is passionate about helping families to improve their parenting skills so that children can thrive.

The award is named for Stephen M. Cahn, a passionate advocate for children in need. An attorney who specialized in juvenile and child welfare law, he represented young people in Worcester Juvenile Court and served on child-advocacy boards, including YOU, Inc; the National Association for Council for Children and the Massachusetts Children’s Trust Fund. Since 2002, a year after Mr. Cahn’s death, CTF has honored a Massachusetts advocate who exemplifies Mr. Cahn’s leadership and dedication.
